Pretending to Be in Control
Having had several run-ins with the police, Brad Downey often imagined reversing the dynamic—becoming the one in control. This work gives form to that fantasy. With their identities concealed behind helmet visors, the performers become anonymous figures, mocking the mechanisms of state power. Instead of enforcing order, these uniformed bodies carry out gestures that undercut their own seriousness.
The performance took place in June 2018 in Besançon, France, as part of the Bien Urbain festival.
